Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone,Tenor Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1167803 By United States Army. By John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Aaron Hettinga. Classical,Historic,March,Patriotic,Traditional. 9 pages. Aaron Hettinga #768155. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1167803). The official U.S. Army song, commonly known as “The Caissons Go Rolling Along†or “The Army Goes Rolling Along,†predates John Philip Sousa’s version by several years. In 1917, Sousa composed “The U.S. Field Artillery March†containing the Caisson Song’s melody as the basis for the march’s TRIO section. This arrangement makes use of Sousa’s introduction, then remains faithful to his harmonic treatment and the flavors of the melody and accompaniments throughout. While each of the four parts do feature some small technical requirements, they remain at an intermediate level where even less-experienced players should be able to pull them off handily. While originally scored here for SATB Saxophone quartet, a sub part to play the top line on Alto sax is also included. This arrangement is a great vehicle to share some patriotic flair on your patriotic Saxophone quartet program!Note: the live demo recording is made from a brass quintet version of this same basic arrangement.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130062 Composed by English Folk Song by way of American Appalachians. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Celtic,Children,Folk,Irish,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #730439. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1130062). The origins of this lullaby can be traced back to 15th-century England. Pioneers from the British Isles brought it with them to the American Appalachians. Written in three verses, its lyrics tell of four seemingly impossible gifts the singer gave my love. The first verse describes each gift: cherry that has no stone, a chicken that has no bone. a story that has no end and a baby with no cryin'. The second verse poses the riddle: how can such items exist? The third provides the answers: A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone. A chicken when it's pippin', it has no bone. The story of I love you, it has no end. A baby when it's sleepin', has no cryin'. This Riddle Song has enjoyed somewhat of a revival since mid-20th century, making appearances in various movies, TV shows and recordings. In 1956, Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis adapted The Riddle Song tune, added an original bridge and created new lyrics; Johnny Mathis recorded it as The Twelfth of Never, giving the haunting melody probably its greatest surge in popularity. This arrangement is in G major and opens with an upbeat introduction. For the first statement of the melody, tempo slows and Trumpets alternate the lead. On the second time through, tempo speeds up slightly and tuba takes the lead. For the third, tempo is back to the opening speed and Horn in F plays the melody. On the fourth time through, Trumpets and Trombone frame the tune in a call-and-response form. In the fifth, Trombone takes the lead. In the sixth and final statement, Horn in F and Trombone play melody at half speed while Trumpets play a fairly complicated counterpoint (at what may seem like double speed!). This, until the last phrase (A baby when it's sleepin'), when the melody switches over to Trumpets and Trombone takes the counterpoint. Trumpet 1 plays its A above the staff a number of times. Tuba's lowest note is its F down below the staff. Otherwise, notes for all instruments are well within normal playing range. Because of the recommended tempo, the countermelody at measures 68-83 could be problematic for Trumpets and Trombone and may require a little extra work. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 42 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. Choral Choir (Mixed) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576366 Composed by David Warin Solomons. 20th Century,Christmas,Classical,Contemporary,World. Octavo. 27 pages. David Warin Solomons #18013. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576366). A vivid and at times raucous celebration of Saturnalia, in Latin, for an ensemble of voices and instruments (including various percussion, woodwind and brass instruments). The sound sample is a sung performance by the composer with an electronic preview of the instruments. Further explanations: Song for Saturnalia - a raucous and fun romp - in whole tones (since there is scant evidence of the types of scales used in those days - whole tones just seem to work in this context). The Latin words make references to relatively modern times but the spirit of Saturnalia is timeless, after all. The pileum (also written pilleum) is the little cap that slave wore during Saturnalia to show they were free men and women on that day - they would point to their cap and say libertus sum (I am a free person) and omnes aequales sumus (we are all equal). The words (and translation - both by me) are as follows: Saturnalia Song Io Saturnalia! Hodie igitur dominus noster non es. [Hooray, it’s Saturnalia, so today you’re not our boss] Hodie omnes aequales sumus. Io! [Today we are all equal, hooray!] [spoof of USA Anthem] Salve O Frutici [Hi there, Bush] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] [spoof of UK Anthem] Salve O Campestri [Hi there, Blair] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] [spoof of German Anthem] Salve O Candelari [Hi there Brandt] Ecce meum pileum: [Look, see my little cap of freedom] libertus sum [I’m a free man] Io Saturnalia, Io! [Hooray, it’s Saturnalia, hooray!] [Note on the invented names (used in the vocative in the song of course): Fruticius is based on the word frutex a bush - it’s also used to mean blockhead in Roman comedies, but I can’t help that!. Campestrius is based on campester - a plain or place of clear ground (Blair is the Celtic equivalent word - a forest clearing!) Candelarius is based on candela - a taper or candle - ie something burning hence Brandt (yes, I know he’s earlier than the other two politicians, but, hey, it’s all a bit of anachronistic fun!)].

Choral Choir (Unison) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.969530 Composed by Zachary Damm and Zachary Damm. Contemporary,Renaissance. Octavo. 11 pages. Digital Print Publishing #2927293. Published by Digital Print Publishing (A0.969530). The Canon Yeoman's Lament is a song from the perspective of one of Geoffrey Chaucer's characters from the Canterbury Tales--the Canon Yeoman. In Chaucer's famous work, this unfortunate dupe recounted his misfortunes at the hands of the Canon, a.k.a, Alchemist, as well as the plight of one of the Alchemist's many swindled customers. The song is written for unison choir with a piano accompaniment. It also includes a short play at the end that dramatizes Chaucer's rendition of the Canon Yeoman's Tale. The play requires a minimum of six players and would be excellent as a skit for secondary students. The Canon Yeoman's Lament could conclude the play or, if given a brief verbal introduction, it could stand on its own as a humorous interjection highlighting the perils from swindlers, both past and present. This tongue-in-cheek song captures Chaucer's legendary humor for modern audiences!
