A powerful 3:30 arrangement of Tchaikovsky's tribute to Mozart, from Tchaikovsky's Orchestral Suite No. 3;  this instrumental setting of Mozart's choral work Ave Verum Corpus K. 618 is the 3rd movement in this Suite, here expanded to include additional wind parts with the strings;  perfect for church orchestras as an opening Prelude, Offertory, or in services celebrating Communion.  (Violins are on one part with optional divisi;  violas play a few measures of treble clef,  and bassoons/cellos a few measures of tenor clef, all due to the high ranges of Tchaikovsky's notation.) Tchaikovsky uses the key of Bb major and this is retained.

The première of Daudet's play, L'Arlésienne, with incidental music by Bizet, at the Théâtre du Vaudeville on 30 September 1872, was a devastating event for both playwright and composer and the production was removed from the repertory after 19 performances. The critic Johannès Weber, however, was alert to the quality of Bizet's score and suggested that the composer should excerpt and rescore several pieces for the Concerts populaires where 'the lovely music would be better appreciated than at the Vaudeville'. Bizet must have moved rather quickly to follow Weber's suggestion, for the première of the first Arlésienne suite took place only six weeks later at the Concerts populaires on 10 November 1872 and the work in its new abridged form was soon taken up by many other orchestras. Thus, before his death in June 1875, Bizet had the satisfaction that his suite from L'Arlésienne was played by all the major concert societies in Paris and it has remained firmly in the concert and recorded repertoire ever since.

Yellow Frame's Harvest Home. The suite is a musical landscape of different points along the Kittatinny mountain ridge in western Sussex County, New Jersey. I. On the Delaware at Carpenter's Point explores a kayaking trip at the very northern point of New Jersey. From the river one can see the High Point monument, the highest point in the state, as one crosses under bridges, passes islands, and speeds through small rapids. II. The Fields of Walpack at Dusk paints the tiny, rural township of Walpack, with its quiet fields and forests. The central theme is In Babilone: an old Dutch melody, echoing the regions colonial-era settlers. III. Yellow Frame's Harvest Home is a fantasy on Come, Ye Thankful People, Come, illustrating the late summer community dinner, Harvest Home run by the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church, of Fredon township. Other hymn tunes surface in the piece, including May the Lord Mighty God and St. Anne (the colonial-era psalm tune for O God our Help in Ages Past).
