Chief Sitting In The Rain (viola part – vln, vla, cel) MO114BViola Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor2 pages - 2:00 minutes in length Chief Sitting In The Rain adapted for violin, viola and cello is a traditional fiddle tune that Mark O'Connor and Edgar Meyer arranged for their album with Yo-Yo Ma entitled Appalachia Waltz. O'Connor learned this tune from fiddling legend Benny Thomasson at an early age. Thomasson developed the parts of the tune as incorporated here. O'Connor and Meyer then completed the arrangement with understated counterpoint lines. The result is an old-time fiddle tune with a classical charm. Chief Sitting In The Rain, also known as Chief Sitting Bull has the distinction of being the first piece the trio played in public. Immediately following their first rehearsal, Ma and Meyer stopped by O'Connor's class of students at Vanderbilt University and ended up playing the new music. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels. Original music printed from the composer’s manuscripts.Music editing, copying and engraving by Mark O’Connorusing Finale on Apple Macintosh 1995 Public Domain Arranged by Mark O’Connor and Edgar MeyerOriginally released on Appalachia Waltz featuring Mark O’Connor, Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer, Sony ClassicalChief Sitting In The Rain can be heard on Mark O'Connor's Crossing Bridges OMAC Recordshttps://omacrecords.com/omac-7-crossing-bridges Catalogue Number MO114BCopyright © 1995 by Mark O’Connor Music InternationalFor more information on violinist and composer Mark O'Connor, O’Connor String Camps, Touring Ensembles, Discography, Bio, Repertoire and more, please visitwww.markoconnor.com For information on the O’Connor Method – instructional book series for violin, viola, cello and school string orchestra programs:www.oconnormethod.com

Small Ensemble Marimba,Xylophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935374 Composed by Dan Heslink. Contemporary,World. Score and parts. 41 pages. Pharaoh Publications #4855253. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935374). Andean Refrains, composed by Dan Heslink The composing of Andean Refrains resulted from the composer’s travels in the Andes Mountains of Venezuela, where he came to know and enjoy the melodies of the indigenous Andean band. Although the marimba is not an instrument of that region, it seems to be well-suited to the music’s technical and expressive demands.   Requiring four marimbas and one xylophone, Andean Refrains is an original composition employing tradition Andean musical styles. Some of the five parts require four mallets, the others require two. It is best to perform the bass part on a marimba that can play two octaves below middle C, but if no instrument with that range is available octave transpositions of some notes is acceptable. In this work the marimbas imitate the wide vibrato of zampoñas, or panpipes, with rapidly alternating octaves. The notched-end wooden flute, quena, is suggested with hard mallets on the xylophone, and of course the guitars and charango (Andean ukulele) transcribe well to marimba with four mallets. The bass end of the marimba provides the register of the guitarrone. Chaccha, the rattle of llama toenails, is simulated by instructing one marimbaist to at times strike the bar with the handles of the mallet.   With this work the composer hopes to capture the quiet dignity and inevitability of life’s events expressed by Andean musicians.

Alto Saxophone,Instrumental Duet,Tenor Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1151949 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Christmas,Classical,Instructional,March,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #752156. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1151949). This arrangement adapted for sax duo was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Saxophone Quintet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1127728 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. Classical,Instructional,March,Opera,Romantic Period. 15 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #728333. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1127728). This arrangement adapted for sax quintet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, that is, inspiring and significant to the already known choral symphony by Beethoven, indicated to be performed by young music students, who want to enter the symphonic music, moreover, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change in key, so that it is comfortable for all instruments in the formation, thus maintaining the essence of the striking melody, as well as using it for ensemble practice among musicians of different traditions. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (To Joy), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as the instruments in a symphony, thus creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form that was to be adopted by Romantic composers. This is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best known works in the Western repertoire, considered both an icon and predecessor of Romantic music, and one of Beethoven's great masterpieces, where it was first performed on May 7, 1824, the same year it was completed, at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, Austria. The conductor was Michael Umlauf, the theater's music director, and Beethoven - dissuaded from conducting by the advanced stage of his deafness - was given a special place on the stage next to the conductor. It was later rearranged by Herbert von Karajan to become the anthem of the European Union in 1972, the national anthem of Rhodesia from 1974 until 1979, Rise, O Voices of Rhodesia, used the tune Ode to Joy..

Acoustic Guitar,Alto Flute,Cello,Horn,Tenor Saxophone,Trombone,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1368317 By Kansas. By Kerry Livgren. Arranged by Jon Thingvall. Pop,Rock. 45 pages. Jon Thingvall #952661. Published by Jon Thingvall (A0.1368317). Seeking a modern setting for a French Horn solo?  Is the community--or are the students--feeling that classical music is stuffy?  Got a budding Guitar Hero with nowhere to play?  Want to give the orchestra a break, without stopping the program completely?  Need a relaxed, quasi-Adagio for the concert's pacing? This is a record-copy of KANSAS' classic rock ballad, scored for a fairly small ensemble.  Most instruments can be substituted:  Flute for Alto Flute, Viola or Cello for Violin, Flugelhorn for the Horn part, or 4 Trombone parts instead of 3 with Solo Horn.Acoustic Guitar (will need amp).  (Part copied verbatim from the official video, with thanks to Kansas - Dust In The Wind Guitar Lesson Pt.1 - Intro & Verse (youtube.com))French Horn solo--  Steve Walsh's epic, almost-apocalyptic style seemed perfectly suited to the mystique of the French Horn.  (Measure 102 is “as though spoken†like in the recording here:  https://youtu.be/tH2w6Oxx0kQ?t=126.  If the audience isn't familiar with Steve's style, it may be better left as a quarter- or eighth-note (written F sharp), but if you've got a Hornist with the chops, I’ve tried to put the articulations in to imitate a spoken voice.)3 Trombones-- Mainly triadic pads, with two instances of 9ths in the upper bass clef.1 Tenor Sax / Double on Alto Flute  The Sax will sound great sotto voce to the Horn.  The Flute should be as soft as possible, and ethereal.Solo Violin  (Could be sectional, instead of solo.)Solo Cello  (Ibid.)The official video has bongos at the end, but I felt the sparse score worked well.  They could easily be improvised, if needed.

Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926828 Composed by Robert Jeffery. Contemporary. Score and part. 3 pages. Robert Jeffery Music #3566557. Published by Robert Jeffery Music (A0.926828). Duration: approx 3 mins.Difficulty: IntermediateA short piece for cello and piano, well suited to school level performers who are looking for an evocative, dramatic yet tuneful addition to their repertoire. The Moon Song has also worked very well as accompaniment for one or more contemporary dancers. The piece is written in a flamenco rhythm called siguiriyas. It may look complicated on the page, but is counted more simply in 5 beats, with three short and two long beats: [1] and [2] and [3] and uh [4] and uh [5] and In this case, the 1, 2, and 5 are the short beats and the 3 and 4 are long beats. This pattern repeats regularly throughout the piece, though there are a couple of extra bars interspersed to allow for breathing space at the end of certain phrases. The piece was inspired by the early 20th century Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca's poem of the same name, hence the use of the flamenco rhythm. The poem's dark, moody nature fits the cello's character very well.

Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers #6826357. Published by Jubal's Lyre Music Publishers (A0.1071347). This is the downloadable audio file of the Partita on O Sacred Head, Now Wounded for String Quartet by Martin Dicke. A full score and set of parts are also available (S0.1195113). Based on the tune HERZLICH TUT MICH VERLANGEN by Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler (1564-1612), this partita consists of six movements. Chorale settings frame inner movements that employ doleful ostinatos, a quasi-canon, and a bicinium that turns into a trio at the cadences. With anguished and unconventional harmonies, the work begins fortissimo on a second inversion of an F major seventh chord and ends pianissimo eight minutes later on an A major chord. Originally composed for organ, this partita works well for strings and is particularly suited for Lent, Holy Week, or communion services. A compatible edition is available for Woodwind Quintet.
