This arrangement has three verses, all in slightly different styles.The melody and the onomatopoeia in the lyrics are together meant to symbolise the fife (“Ture-lure-lu�) and the drum (“Pata-pata-pan�).In both arrangements Guitar One has melody, and it fits nicely in a mix of IV and V position. There is no fingering, because your ensemble might want to choose between two different approaches...A less experienced ensemble might prefer to venture up the neck just to reach for the A and B notes, and return to the first position as soon as possible...A more experienced group might want to stay up the neck to get a more rounded tone throughout. Depending on your choice of fingering, slurs might be possible to improve the flow.There are two versions of the lower parts. Apart from the collection of Classical Manuscripts composed by the violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) which he had passed off as transcriptions of settings of old masters, the violinist published original works early on as well. Kreisler himself liked to play them as encore pieces, thus sweetening many a concert with this 'musical confectionery'. Famous tunes are, for example, Liebesfreud, Liebesleid and Schön Rosmarin, his old Viennese dance tunes, in which Kreisler evoked the coffee-house atmosphere of his home town with beautiful melodies and mellifluous harmonies. Another wonderful example is his Marche miniature viennoise, with its humorous theme and a rather march-like middle section - and everywhere, Kreisler takes the audience by surprise with a little Viennese snide humour. Kreisler's original compositions are lovely miniatures, lively and catchy, even with a touch of melancholy - yet full of charm and elegance. Composed in 2018, this piece essentially starts out as a waltz, with a surprise halfway through. The first 3/4 melody you hear may sound a tad reminiscent of a waltz composed by Dmitri Shostakovich, which was partially intended. The second melody, consisting mainly of dissected chords, sounds more like carousel music, hence the title. And then we come to the plot twist.Towards the end of the piece, there is a subtle detail the composer threw in, which most listeners might not notice. During a section in C minor, the counter-melody transitions into major 3 bars before the lead melody does. In the counter-melody is an unexpected C major chord in C minor, (an E-natural where you likely expected an E-flat). This was actually done to foreshadow the melody jumping back into major for the finale.To a certain extent, Carousel City is Adrian's love letter to Binghamton. He personally believes this piece to be one of the best in his archive, and hopes that you experience as much fun hearing it as he did writing it.

The second movement Perilous Pursuit is fast with many different 4-note Bartokian modal-like scales and quite playful in mood. It gets going faster and faster, finally slowing right down and becoming quiet at the end like an exhausted child, but giving one surprise last gasp of a Hoorah to conclude. This work of a bit over 5 minutes in length is appropriate for intermediate performers and is all in bass clef.
