It's A Sin is taken from Pet Shop Boys' second studio album, 'Actually', released in June 1987 as the lead single. It became their second number-one in the UK, spending three weeks at the top. Additionally, the single topped the charts in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, reaching number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100. In the song, Tennant describes some impressions he took from his time at a Catholic high school in Newcastle upon Tyne. He ended up feeling that everything he had done or was going to do was a sin. Directed by Derek Jarman, the It's A Sin video marked the director's first of several collaborations with the band; it extended the lyrical themes of the song by showing Tennant under arrest by an inquisition with Lowe as his jailer and Ron Moody ('Fagin' in the musical, 'Oliver!') in the role of his judge, interspersed with brief clips of personifications of the seven deadly sins. This arrangement for brass band opens with the fanfare used in the orchestral Overture to the Pet Shop Boys' 'Performance' tour, segueing into the song and featuring, in the middle, a half-time feel, riffing off Tennant's own suggestion that It's A Sin, at its heart, is a heavy metal record. The compositions take the musical style of Nocturnes with each having its own distinctive style. Each Consolation is composed in either the key of E major or D-flat major. E major is a key regularly used by Liszt for religious themes. There exist two versions of the Consolations. The first (S.171a) was composed by Liszt between 1844 and 1849 and published in 1992 by G. Henle Verlag. The second (S.172) was composed between 1849 and 1850 and published in 1850 by Breitkopf & Härtel, containing the familiar Consolation No. 3, Lento placido, in D-flat Major. The third Consolation is in D-flat major and initially marked as Lento placido. It is the most popular of the Consolations and also a favorite encore piece. Its style is similar to the Chopin Nocturnes, in particular, it seems to have been inspired by Chopin’s Nocturne Op. 27 No. 2. The similarity between the two works has been interpreted as a tribute to Chopin who died in 1849, a year before the Consolations were published. This third Consolation is however one of several of Liszt's works that take a style reminiscent of Chopin; some examples include Liszt's Polonaises, Berceuse, Mazurka brillante, and his Ballades. In 1883, years after composing the Consolation, Liszt received a Grand piano from the Steinway Company with a design that included a sostenuto pedal. Liszt began transcribing this Consolation for the new sostenuto pedal and in a letter to Steinway he wrote: In relation to the use of your welcome tone-sustaining pedal I inclose two examples: Danse des Sylphes, by Berlioz, and No. 3 of my Consolations. I have today noted down only the introductory bars of both pieces, with this proviso, that, if you desire it, I shall gladly complete the whole transcription, with exact adaptation of your tone-sustaining pedal. Liszt recommended sparing usage of the sostenuto pedal in the interpretation of this Consolation and opined on the positive effect it would have on the more tranquil passages. Bush puts herself in the shoes of a man waiting outside the delivery room as his wife gives birth. The song explores his vulnerability at this tense moment. This SSSAA arrangement plays with the form of the original song, whilst incorporating all the themes and hooks that we know from Bush's version. It offers a variety of different textures throughout, handing the melody around and moving between a free chorale-like opening to a steady pulse for the bulk of the arrangement. There is an additional descant soprano part on the top stave, which could be sung by a soloist or a small group. The key bars for this part are 12-15 & 26-28 , where we hear the iconic opening motif. The other passages of this descant can be omitted as necessary depending on the ensemble's skill level. This was arranged especially for Chaps Choir's 10 year celebration concert in 2023. The history of the seventh art is so filled with examples that it's not worth citing one specific movie. That is the natural order of things. But what when this natural order is inverted and the movie becomes a book? That is what happened with drummer Aquiles Priester. After releasing two videos where he shows his unbeatable technique, in 2013 he released Aquiles Priester's Top 100 Drum Fills, a selection of fills that he recorded with the various bands he played in - Hangar, Angra, Freakeys. So, during the recording other fills were created and, as they were interesting ideas, they ended up being included in the package. This resulted in 150 fills, 100 of which were selected for the video - 25 ended up being included as bonus tracks, including themes with Hangar, Tony MacAlpine and Midas Fate. Like everything else he does, success was immediate. The video was voted Best Educational DVD of The Year by the renowned North-American magazine Modern Drummer, another feat for a musician used to accumulating similar feats. Now Aquiles Priester's Top 100 Drum Fills has just become a book. Many people asked me for the scores of the fills shown in the video, says Aquiles, and as I had almost everything written down, I decided to make their lives easier. It is another release by a musician used to breaking barriers as in 2011, when he became the only drummer in Brazilian history to enter the ranking of Modern Drummer magazine as 5th best prog metal drummer of the world, next to names like Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Gavin Harrison and Marco Minnemann. In 2015 Aquiles was once more nominated to take part of another poll and was elected best drummer in the hard rock category by the North-American magazine Drum!.
