Published by Patrick Prejean (A0.1317853). These dances where written at the request of the executive director of CityMusic Cleveland. They are based and inspired by North and Sub-Saharan African Dances in addition to a reimagining of fairy tales. There are 8 movements making this the biggest project I've ever composed. This quintet may also be performed as a String Orchestra ensemble. I - There is a story about a man named Alexander Dynis (Deniz) who is believed to have ended up in Ruthenia (modern day Ukraine) as a PoW when the Ottomans invaded the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Not much is known about his early life but we do know is that eventually afterwards he was granted the position of Starosta (town mayor/landlord) of Kozieglowy (Poland) by the Bishop of Krakow. He is the only Black starosta that we know of to this day. His story is interesting and is the basis of this movement and was inspired by the soundtrack of a game called Hellish Quart. II - This movement is a dance of ritual which emphasizes the different pitch intonations of the human voices hence the dissonant harmonies. Imagine walking through the savannah and hearing these voices but you are unsure of their intentions. This dance is heavy and percussive. III - This movement is of a young woman who is kidnapped by the Vikings and dreams of escaping captivity. IV - There are 3 distinct motives for this movement which combine to create a battle - like scene, those being the 6 quarter note triplets, the rhythmic motive, and the driving 16th notes.  V - I wanted to create the sounding of the natural horns of the Ancient and Classical Eras and to combine them with a retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood. Her journey begins upon hearing these horns and prompted to ride out to begin her quest.VI/VII/VIII - These movements where edited from my Death Waltzes for the Living. There are hidden titles for number 6 and 7: Loss of Mind and Hospital. These waltzes are a reimagining of Cinderella's life but instead of her story playing out as we know it, she suffers a psychotic break and is transported into our world and rushed to the hospital. The final movement concludes the piece with a Dance of Death. I have had many close encounters with permanent oblivion and the result of this is what I call Hitchcock Horror harmonic language. These encounters supplimented with the dreams of the unconscious realm create an uneasy dance that ends almost as abruptly as they begin.

Sitting in the little white stucco chapel, I caught a breeze in the hot afternoon. Living on a lush tropical island on a campus planted with stunning landscaping such as the vivid oranges and reds of the flambouyan tree, tasting mango plucked right from the trees, taking in the night fragrance of the iloilo trees, and working with campers who were serious about learning, who wanted to gather every drop of musical knowledge they could, it really seemed like I was in Paradise. ♫ On my way back and forth to the men’s dorm, I often saw carpenters working on an open air work bench, transforming large hand-sawn slabs of wood into beautiful tables and chairs with hand tools. I began to meditate on the idea of what an incredible artist the Lord of the Universe is. The Youtube video is well worth a listen before you buy this version. This is a great tune by the genius. I've done my level best to create an arrangement I hope is at least part way towards honouring John Lennon's greatness. I've not made it too easy either. I've wanted to stretch the players a reasonable amount. Every part is worthwhile so no-one is short-changed. Viola you do get the tune! The cello line is a good one. Both violins weave in and around each other. What more can you ask.

Published by Nick Stokes (A0.1317395). This arrangement is of a light 2 movement piano trio by Haydn. It goes for about 10 to 15 minutes (depending on if you do repeats). It has a number of delightful and catchy tunes and has plenty of energy in the presto movement.   It is for what I think is the best combination of instruments involving guitar in chamber music - flute , viola & guitar. the level of difficulty is probably in that order too , with the flute doing the lion’s share of the tunes, the viola doing a fair amount of double stops and some secondary tunes and the guitar not too hard but involving some grand barres and half barres and requires tuning the low string down to Eb.  This version has a many tone colours to explore and is very light in the bass which I find makes for a sparkling sound . All the players are busy and get to have solos, which is sometimes a complaint of cellists playing Haydn piano trios where the requirement at the time seemed to be to make the music work with or without the cello being there.   I hope other guitarists and amateur musicians find it fun and worthwhile putting the time in to learn and perform it. I feel the best of Haydn will never sound old and the basic structure is so solid that it has been used for centuries since he was alive and creating. Maybe this arrangement will allow a fresh listen to this particular piece.
