For Vocal and Brass Band. Ombra mai fu, also known as Largo from Xerxes is one of Handel's best-known arias despite the opera Serse (1738) only surviving 5 performances. As the opening aria to the opera, its intent was to be a love song. The original lyrics translate from Italian to Never was a shade. It references the Platanus orientalis or Plane Tree and what lovely shade it provides. The Plane Tree is related to the American Sycamore tree (Platanus occidentalis). On Christmas eve 1906, Canadian inventor and radio pioneer, Reginald Fessenden broadcast the first AM radio program, using this aria as its opener; hence, the association with classical Christmas playlists. The range of voice suits the mezzo-soprano, the contralto, or the countertenor. The music is suitable for concerts. Its love theme lends well to weddings, and its plaintive melody is suitable for funerals. Duration ~2:30. 27 pages.

At first, the intro lick performed by the guitar, and the guitar solo was what inspired me to the arrangement, but I also found the bass line, another attraction to do the job. Amazing Grace is a Christian hymn published in 1779 with words written in 1772 by English Anglican clergyman and poet John Newton (1725–1807). It is an immensely popular hymn, particularly in the United States, where it is used for both religious and secular purposes. Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by others' reactions to what they took as his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed (navally conscripted) into service with the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy. While this moment marked his spiritual conversion, he continued slave trading until 1754 or 1755, when he ended his seafaring altogether. Newton began studying Christian theology and later became an abolitionist.
