Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1406728 By Dr. Sheri L. Masiakowski. By Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF. Arranged by Dr. Sheri L. Masiakowski. 20th Century,Religious,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. School Sisters of St. Francis #989483. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1406728). “The Spirit of the Lord† Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSFDedicated to Robert Verwoert on the occasion of his ordination to the priesthood — May 1971Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF earned her PhD in composition from the University of Rochester (Eastman School of Music) in 1955.  She is known for a variety of compositional genres, e.g. keyboard (organ and piano), voice, and orchestra. Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.TEXT:The Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Send your Spirit upon us in this time and place, the Spirit who gives us comfort, the Spirit who brings light to our eyes, the Spirit who helps us say yes to your summoning Word.Bless us, Father, as you have done before, with the gift of your Spirit that he may stir new life within us.Blest are you in ev'rything that your Spirit makes new, now and for all ages to come. The source of this text is unknown. Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes. Do not interpret this to mean that all syllables are to receive equal time.  Speak the text in natural cadence and then sing the pitches in that same natural cadence.  This will best represent Sr. Theophane’s intention. We invite you to browse other creative works by the School Sisters of St. Francis on our website:  https://www.sssf.org/SSSF/Our-Global-Impact/United-States/Music-Ministry/Catalog-of-Music.htm  Further information about our offerings is available from Dr. Sheri Masiakowski, curator of the Heritage Music Collection, at smasiakowski@sssf.org.

As the piece progresses after the original transcription, the top melody becomes melismatic and is shared amongst all the instruments in turn, ending with a brief canon based on the initial phrase. Original poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson Sweet and low, sweet and low Wind of the western sea, Low, low, breathe and blow, Wind of the western sea! Over the rolling waters go, Come from the dying moon, and blow, Blow him again to me, While my little one, while my pretty one, sleeps. Sleep and rest, sleep and rest, Father will come to thee soon; Rest, rest, on mother's breast, Father will come to thee soon; Father will come to his babe in the nest, Silver sails all out of the west Under the silver moon! Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926663 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588423. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926663). In chapter two of Paul's letter to the Philippians, Paul begins speaking to his readers about encouragement, comfort from love, participation in the Spirit, and godly affection and sympathy for one another. He says, we are to count others as more important than ourselves. He pleads, Complete my joy by doing these things. From this point, Paul breaks immediately into this other known 1st century Hymn to Christ (Verses 5-11), which I have called, The Great Humility of Christ. The hymn text is a beautiful exposition of the Gospel; Christ in the form of God, did not hold onto (grasp) His equality with God, but humbled Himself and took on the human form of a servant (slave) and poured Himself out for all of mankind. The anthem is composed for SATB (a cappella) choir in two stanzas, with a bridge section and a coda. The piece is scored in D minor, but weaves between D minor and G Major (representing the dual natures of Christ-fully God and fully man). After the first stanza, regarding Christ’s taking on human flesh, the unthinkable happens; Christ humbles Himself in holy obedience to be put to death, even a humiliating and repugnant death on a cross. Here in the anthem we find the musical bridge between the two stanzas with the sopranos holding onto a single note (high D) followed by a cascade of dissonant suspensions, one voice handing off to the other, finally resolving in a descending scale. The second stanza declares God’s having exalted Christ as a consequence of His sacrifice, giving Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. The final coda (in G Major) trumpets the pronouncement that; Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522333 Composed by Unknown - traditional. Arranged by Paul A. Jorg. Christian,Spiritual,Traditional. Octavo. 4 pages. Paul A. Jorg #5869331. Published by Paul A. Jorg (A0.522333). This song is public domain, written in the 1850's, during a time - pre-civil war - when the nation was being torn apart. The writer calms his anxiety by holding on to God's promises. Here are some lyric notes:   I am a poor, wayfaring stranger -  Wayfaring: traveling especially on foot; peripatetic country preachers; a poor wayfaring stranger.   Wandering through this world of woe -  Matthew 18:7: Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin!  Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! And there's no sickness, toil or danger -  John 11:4: When he heard this, Jesus said, This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.   Ecclesiastes 2:18-19: I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.  Acts 14:22: strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,  In that bright land to which I go -  James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.I'm going home to see my Father -  John 6:40 -  For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.   I'm only going over Jordan -  Joshua 22:4:  Now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD  gave you on the other side of the Jordan.   Yet though dark clouds will gather round me -  2 Corinthians 12:10: That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak,  then I am strong.   I know my way is rough and steep -  Psalm 16:11: You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.   Proverbs 15:24:  The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. But beauteous fields lie just before me -  Numbers 13:25: We arrived in the land you sent us to see, and it is indeed a magnificient country, a land flowing with milk and honey.   Where God's redeemed their vigil's keep - Exodus12:42:  Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD  for the generations to come.  I'm going home to see my mother -  Mark 10:29-31: I tell you the truth, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me  and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-and with them, persecutions.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.741920 Composed by Hans G. Nageli. Arranged by M. Ryan Taylor. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. Vocal Works #484765. Published by Vocal Works (A0.741920). A simple arrangement of this well-loved hymn. The choral parts are derived wholly from the original hymn, while the piano takes on a more adventurous role. I chose this hymn for the theme repentance, but it would equally compliment themes like commandments, mercy, grace, or faith. How gentle God’s commands! How kind his precepts are! Come, cast your burden on the Lord And trust his constant care. Beneath his watchful eye, His saints securely dwell; That hand which bears all nature up Shall guard his children well. Why should this anxious load Press down your weary mind? Haste to your Heavenly Father’s throne And sweet refresh-ment find. His goodness stands approved, Unchanged from day to day; I’ll drop my burden at his feet And bear a song a-way.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1271034 By Jeff Bjorck. By traditional Swedish melody. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. 19th Century,Children,Christian,Religious,Traditional. Score. 5 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #863426. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1271034). Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this Swedish Folk Tune appears on his album/CD, Keepsakes in the Attic. Bjorck's bridge is virtually as long as the original melody, and he weaves them together seamlessly. The lovely tune and accompanying words in English harken back to a simpler time. Whereas it has been used as a lullaby, the lyrics touch on deep themes, including the hopeful truth that “Neither life nor death shall ever from the Lord his children sever.â€.

Unison/Two-part chorus - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGA224 Composed by Jody W Lindh. General. With Flute. Sacred Anthem. Octavo. 8 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGA224. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGA224). UPC: 749193017715.This beautiful Chinese folk melody has been skillfully wedded to a text by Jody Lindh. The theme of the anthem, a prayer for personal growth, is in a sense a response to the phrase form the catechism 'What is our chief purpose' To glorify God and enjoy God forever.' What a fine anthem for choir dedication Sunday to express the commitment expected of every chorister, and their response. The accompaniment is written for organ and flute, with footnotes to explain how the flute part can be adapted if organ alone is used. It can be played on the piano without many adjustments.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553724 Composed by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Wedding. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3578175. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553724). Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations. The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity. Each traditional dance style is preserved with great care, while Parry's own particularly English harmonic language marks them as more contemporary. This move is arranged for wind quintet.I have also arrangements of another suite by Parry on this site: The English Suite
