The screenplay by William Roberts is a remake – in an Old West–style – of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai (itself initially released in the United States as The Magnificent Seven). The ensemble cast includes Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, and Horst Buchholz as a group of seven gunfighters, and Eli Wallach as their main antagonist. The seven title characters are hired to protect a small village in Mexico from a group of marauding bandits, led by Wallach. The film was released by United Artists on October 12, 1960. It was both a critical and commercial success, and has been appraised as one of the greatest films of the Western genre.[5] It spawned three sequels, a television series that aired from 1998 to 2000, and a 2016 film remake. Elmer Bernstein's film score was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, and is listed on the American Film Institute's list of the top 25 American film scores. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Louis Lambert (1863). ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ After a family trip to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Ford Theater, I created a concert band arrangement to solidify the trip in my mind using a popular Civil War song from the North, “Abraham’s Daughter,� and a song used by both North and South, “Johnny Comes Marching Home.� ♫ Music was a means for soldiers to release the tensions of war. By December 1861 the Union army had 28,000 musicians in 618 bands, not counting soldiers who travelled with violins and other musical instruments. Soldiers often sang as they marched by day and at night in camp. Musical duels were not uncommon between Union and Confederate bands. This idea inspired the last section of the arranger where the 2 songs are played against each other. ♫ Septimus Winner wrote “Abraham’s Daughter� in 1861 for the Minstrel stage. “Abraham’s Daughter� pictures a fresh recruit that is on his way to Washington DC to be processed and trained for future battles. ♫ Given the unpublished verses we have, Abraham’s Daughter was undoubtedly sung and embellished by Union soldiers as they travelled from battlefield to battlefield. ♫ Winner is also known for writing “Ten Little Injuns� “Listen to the Mockingbird� and “Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?� ♫ Abraham Lincoln had 4 sons, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas (Tad); but no daughters. So, who is Abraham’s daughter? ♫ Oh! Should you ask me who she am, Columbia is her name, sir; She is the child of Abraham, Or Uncle Sam, the same, sir. Now if I fight, why ain't I right? In 1990, while chairman of the music department of Paine College, I spent a week doing research on a project in the Philadelphia Free Library.   In the course of that project, I stumbled upon an unpublished major chamber piece by one of America’s first homegrown Romantic composers, William Wallace Gilchrist (1846-1916).  The find was a vellum (ink on onion skin) working score and parts - working score in that there were changes made on the pages (assumed to be in the composer’s own handwriting) of Gilchrist’s first piano trio. I had other projects at hand, so it was 2005 before I finished editing and annotating the score and parts, presented here.  I encourage the reader to refer to the editorial notes in preparing this piece for performance.

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life was released as a single in March 1973 and was Stevie Wonder's third number-one on the Billboard 100 charts. It appears on the Talking Book album along with Superstition. It was nominated for both Grammy Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and ultimately won the Grammy award for best male vocal, although there are other vocalists on the start of the track. The harmonies are both lush and jazzy and the melody line jumps around in the second section. Throughout the performance the rhythms need to be tight and precise, yet also with a laid back quality to the syncopations - don't rush! This arrangement is mostly in 3 parts apart from the coda, where the men can split into tenor and bass parts, and the piano accompaniment can be altered to suit, though an electric piano tone like the recording would work well. The arrangement would suit an intermediate mixed adult or school choir, and there is a vocal score included to help reduce the number of pages for the choir.

A video with the same title has been posted on YouTube.com, which contains more than 130 images of photos and a few short videos with the background melody of this song. Although most of the songs were published before as early as 2008 and later, the author re-composed carefully based on his memory with certain modifications and key signature changes to adjust an even playing of the song in one whole piece. The highlights of the stories' songs are as follows: The beginning part of the song is originally called the prelude of Tao Yuan-ming's The Eutopia of the Peach Land Spring; which is followed by the historical long poem of 616 Chinese characters called Pi Pa Xing by Bai Ji-yi around 1:30. Around 8:06 is a small bird feeding her young chicken and its tail-dancing matches with the melody of the song which was modified from Beijing Opera by the composer. Around 11:30  is the song called Wedding Waltz for Su Dong-po's poem Written on the West Wood Wall; around 13:40 is the Chi Le Song; around 14:00 to 15:00 is the song -  Love Forever, which was jointly created with his son Raymond and his wife Catherine 25 years ago. The playing time at 15:30 is the song the author wrote for his poem called Life and Sea in 100 Chinese Characters; around 18:00 to 19:00 is King's Wedding by the author.
