The Goodness of the Lord grew out of the striking statement of faith found in Psalms 27: 13. While much of the psalm indicates that its author was dealing with some serious life issues, in this verse the psalmist affirms a trust in the Lord’s help: not salvation for the next life, but rescue and shelter within the present lifetime. This piece attempts to portray such trust in God during times of struggle and pain.At least two soloists are necessary, but the solo parts may be divided among more singers if desired to suit your ensemble. The piece may be performed successfully using only chorus, soloists, and piano; however, there is also an orchestration available (S0.249231) for trumpet, tenor sax, guitar, and upright bass. Be warned that the tenor sax part is advanced-but someone who regularly handles musical theater woodwind books should have no problem.
