This one comes from Somerset and this arrangement for brass quintet is inspired by Cecil Sharp's piano arrangement. It begins with an unaccompanied 2nd cornet/trumpet solo (this part is also very effective on flugelhorn), the lower ensemble then joins before the 1st cornet/trumpet takes over the melody. The 2nd cornet/trumpet part is popular for GCSE ensemble performances as it is in reasonable range and showcases the player's ensemble skills in both solo and accompanying roles. There is only a piano score for the string ensemble, but a full score can be provided (at no additional cost) to anyone who purchases it. While most of the text is from the Bible, any non-Biblical text is in the public domain. The entire piece takes over 17 minutes. It consists of the 7 cries of Christ from the cross: 1. Father, forgive them, 2. Woman, behold, 3. Truly, I say unto you, 4. My God, 5. I thirst, 6. It is finished, and 7. Father, into thy hands. There is a symmetry in the 7 pieces in several ways that ties it together.

When the melody is restated it is doubled in Violin 1 and Violin 2 joins the accompaniment. The equally sonorous second theme is played by Violin 2. Each instrument has a substantial part to play in this excellent adaption of the Beethoven sonata. The arrangement remains in the original key of Ab Major.This arrangement is dedicated to Dr. Michael Rickman, Professor Emeritus at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She asked her mother, who was present, if she could see anyone standing in the back of her room. Her mother looked to where her daughter pointed, but she couldn't see anyone. She told her mother that she thought the three people that only she could see had come to take her home. She passed away later that day. Its nice to know that we have family and friends both here and on the other side of life.
