Bird, Bird, Blue Bird Op.152 Traditional songs can be said to be music that contains the life and soul of a country. Along with Korea’s representative folk song “Arirang,� “Bird, Bird, Bluebird� is also music that contains the life and soul of ancestors, and is a valuable cultural heritage of Korea. A quiet and lyrical theme gradually escalates and repeats itself. Subsequently, the theme is played alternately for each part with the tonal change of the circle of perfect fifths descending for each part. At the end of the cadenza, the theme is played with harmonics that give an oriental feel. The bass and treble parts alternately play the main theme, and in the finale, the majestic chords and tense notes create a sense of musical height and end in a passionate atmosphere. Notturno, is the most famous movement of Borodin’s 1881, String Quartet No. 2 in D major. The solo cello part in the original is distributed to other voices to maintain student interest. Bowings have been carefully edited by Dr. Priscilla Howard creating a beautiful and lyrical selection. Originally for two pianos, the Borodin Helena Polka is a jovial piece with typical changes of pace to reflect the dance form. As the polka is only two and one-half minutes in length,  it will serve nicely as a second movement to the Notturno.  All bowings are included and a Violin3/substitute for Viola part is included to bolster the Viola section.
