It has aspects of imitation, with a lot of independence in the parts. The vocal parts represent the voice of Jesus, the voices of those who crucified him, a narrator, and also briefly the voice of Peter, Jesus' disciple. The bass primarily sings the role of the people who called for his death, but as the piece continues others join in this role. I wrote some of the lyrics and also pulled some verses in from the Bible. It is a naturally upbeat song, but the piano accompaniment that comes in on the second verse makes it even more so. That isn't to say the song doesn't have contrast. The second verse is meant to have a slow, almost mournful, feel right before the piano a violin take over and revive the energy in the chorus. This arrangement is a bit on the advanced side, but it is very doable. I hope it will help bring a bit of life and excitement that is pleasing to God in whatever church service it is sung and played in.
