Debussy originally wrote this piece in 1890 (L.69).  It was first published as Tarantelle Styrienne in 1891.  He later revised it and republished it in 1903 as Danse.  After Debussy's death, the great Maurice Ravel arranged it for full orchestra.This arrangement is for String Orchestra, based mostly off Ravel's orchestration, but also the piano part in some places where the harp that Ravel wrote in is unplayable by strings, whereas the piano part isn't.  Overall the intention is to retain as much as possible the texture and dynamic of the orchestral version in a string orchestra setting.

This mood seems to me folded into the Brazilian Bossa Nova, and the Brazilians? term ?saudade?; in this piece I offer up my tribute to one of my favourite composers, Radamés Gnattali (1906-1988), who wrote for every musical situation in his era in Brazil ? from the concert stage to the back alley, and everything in between. Lua para Epilogo de Verão, is dedicated to the Brazilian guitarist Fabio Zanon, who is both a great friend and a tremendous inspiration.This étude tackles solid chords and contrary motion in the left hand, and, like all the études in this collection, voice separation and phrasing. In measure 24 the guitarist must execute a diagonal barré, where the first finger covers position IV at the first string, and position V at the fifth string, hence the V/IV indication after the barré symbol. The practicalities of navigating through the different chord shapes and rhythms in the piece mean that not all notes can be held for their full, written value. Las Encantadas was the eloquent name bestowed upon the Galápagos Islands by the Dominican friar and Panamanian bishop, Fray Tomás de Berlanga.  He had discovered these enchanted isles quite by chance as the ship he was on, sailing by order of the Holy Roman Emperor, was blown off course hundreds of miles from its Peruvian destination, landing him among the islands of the Columbus Archipelago.  Born in fire and rich with natural beauty Las Encantadas held some mystery for sailors as these isles would seemingly appear, and disappear, from sight, apparently becoming lost in the mists and sea currents that surrounded the islands.  Las Encantadas also held some intrigue for the American author Herman Melville, who in his novella by the same name, included ten fictional short sketches about the Galápagos Islands in The Piazza Tales.Kerion Anderson tells the story of these now well-known islands in his own inimitable way with his work, Las Encantadas, by drawing musical sketches for us that depict the discovery of this archipelago with their sandy warm beaches, their rugged and forbidding coast lines with towering rocks standing as sentinels to the peaceful, blue-watered bays.  When listening to Las Encantadas one can’t help but picture a ship arriving among the isles, with sails unfurled, and sailors standing on deck gazing in wonderment at the strange animals, colorful flora and the exotic birds swirling overhead.  The uplifting spirit of Las Encantadas takes us from island to island until the music bids farewell to these enchanted isles as the ship sails away at the setting of the sun, leaving us with a sense of pathos and wonder.
