Many listeners will be unfamiliar with the almost recitative-style opening that follows the four-measure intro. So when the well-known tune is finally heard at measure 23, some at least will be pleasantly surprised. But don’t decorate the melody too much here; just enjoy it as it is, let that warm trombone sound shine through! The 2nd trombone can decorate the melody a little more from measure 31 onward, but don’t let any swing feeling creep in before measure 38. You may wish to speed up a bit more than I have indicated at measures 47 and 62, but don’t play the swing sections too fast – this is not an up-tempo version. Just strengthen the swing feeling a little each time. This piece will test your quartet’s ability to play an easy swing really tight – especially when the melody is being pulled around, the lead player is playing a little behind the beat. As is usual with my arrangements, every player has the lead at some point, and maybe the chance to introduce a few of their own ideas. Verbum sapientes defendit.     The Lorem ipsum is a text in pseudo-Latin, loosely inspired in a writing of Cicero[1] and that since the XVI century is used in publishing as filler text. Today it is used with a similar function, in electronic documents or web design. There are several versions of this text (of variable length), all them used to begin in the same way (Lorem ipsum … elit) but goon in different fashions. Therefore, I also invented part of the text, taking care of the metric, structural parallelisms and some hidden allusion to popular music (Tellus, ventus et ignis is Earth, Wind and Fire). The last sentence has even some sense: Verbum sapientes defendit means that the word defends to those who know. In the coda, since it is vocally much more practical to finish in m than in t, I changed the last word: dolor sit ipsum, what carries the existentialist message that pain is oneself.   Musically, the form is a rondo, with an obsessive refrain (based on the sentence we are commenting) which reappears without modifications.   This piece was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 18, 19 and 20 May 2015 (as if from a handbook: one day the text, the following day the music and on the third one big adjustements and the definitive precisions). Lorem ipsum is dedicated to Gonzalo Martín Saldívar. Key: D major.Das Concertino classico für Violine und Klavier oder Streicher von Bertold Hummel entstand im Sommer 1999 als sein Enkelkind Fabian auf der Geige gerade die erste Lage beherrschte. Die Idee war, beginnenden GeigerInnen ein kleines Violinkonzert zur Verfügung zu stellen, um die wenigen technischen Fertigkeiten musizierender Weise zu erproben. Je nach Gelegenheit kann es mit einem begleitenden Klavier, einem Streichquartett oder zusammen mit dem Schulorchester aufgeführt werden. Der Titel verrät schon, dass sich Hummel an Form und Tonsprache des klassischen Solokonzertes orientiert. In drei Sätzen werden einfache, volkstümlich anmutende Themen vorgestellt und variiert. Eine größere Kadenz im Allegro wird von Hummel - je nach Charakter des geigenden Kindes - nur ad libitum angeboten. Die kurze überleitende Kadenz im Presto muss dagegen gespielt werden. Mit dem wehmütigen Finnischen Volkslied, das in der Elegie variiert wird, überbrückte das Ehepaar Hummel gerne räumliche Entfernungen.
