Published by Damien Gauci (A0.1412973). The second last piece of this album ‘Sunset’ is a depiction of the sun setting after a relaxed Sunday. The piece open with long-sustained chords in both hand which are reflective of the beauty, calmness, and peacefulness of the sun sitting among the landscape in the distance. This is emphasised by the slow tempo and the soft dynamics of the composition.As the piece moves away from the sustained chords, the an arpeggiated pattern is introduced in the left hand which adds some rhythm. The melody floats above this accompaniment and is unhurried and gentle. In the final section of ‘Sunset’ the right hand joins the left with it’s flowing arpeggiated motion to continue the calm and peaceful atmosphere.I don’t watch the sunset often so writing this piece allowed me to think about the feelings I have when I sit there and simply appreciate the beauty of this event that happens every day, something that goes largely unnoticed in our busy lives.

The collection is a continuation of a concept I came up with several years ago in an attempt to get my piano students to think rather than just play mindlessly. The pieces are all at an intermediate level - mostly quite easy technically. The challenge is in doing some unexpected things. Some are just for fun, but others cover some very useful skills that they don’t normally get to attempt at an intermediate level.In this collection, I have 8 pieces. Two’s Company uses only 2 fingers on each hand. Bar None has a regular beat, but no time signature or bar lines. What’s My Ledger Line uses only one staff, but depends on ledger lines to cover the missing staff. Fancy Footwork uses all 3 pedals.Times Two alternates 3/4 and 6/8 measures. I ‘C’ You is written in alto clef. Multi-Tasking adds rhythms (tapping, clapping, etc.). And It’s All Over takes an easy tune and jumps all over the keyboard with it.

SSAB A Cappella arrangement.When I came to make an SAB arrangement of this, It was obvious to me that the bass part was such an important part of the arrangement, that it had to somehow stay there. It just didn't fit for an Alto 2, so I put it in as Sop 2, putting it up an octave, with a couple of minor adjustments. It sounds a bit like a descant in places, but it's always needed for the harmomies. I think it works well!

Think of the story behind this music as about a young lady who  just loves the waltz, and loves to sing and dance to its lilting triple time.  Her dancing partner is a dashing, ever so handsome young man, who sweeps her off her feet and takes her breath away with his charm and grace, as they float away on the wings of A Dance In Triple Time!I originally composed this piece as a little warm up ditty for my chorus, but as I worked the melody and the harmony, it grew into just a little bit more than a warm up exercise. We always enjoyed singing this little piece for our audiences. And they always enjoyed hearing it. One caveat; The lyrics go by quickly! Leads, use your best diction and pronunciation, so the story doesn't get lost. Harmony voices, keep the melody prominent, by always singing your la-las at least one dynamic notch below the melody!Choose the waltz tempo of your choice - very relaxed to very lilting in 1.  Base your choice on being able to deliver the lyrics with great clarity, especially in the faster passages. Be sure to observe the accelerandos, broadening tempos, a tempos, legatos, and staccatos. They all have much to do with delivering the style of this piece, especially the off beat la-las. Some pairs are staccato, in other pairs, the first la is legato, the second la is staccato.The metronome marks more accurately describe the accelerandos and broadenings. On the repeat at 11, a slight increase in the tempo will add urgency and intensity. Keep the melody prominent as it moves to different voices, beginning at 37. This makes lowers the difficulty tremendously and allows for a more standalone sophisticated version.As with most of my arrangements, the original melody is kept intact, but some liberties with the harmonies were taken. This is to make it flow better on guitar, be more unique, and to also make it sound more like the original song since melody notes are forced on the chord more often (I recommend experimenting with this to see how much you want to do that). The arrangement can be as complex or a simple as you'd like! If you want a simple version, just use famous cowboy (cowgirl?) chords and sing! I think you will be hard pressed to find a version that as well adapted to guitar as this, and it would also be hard to find a sophisticated version like this that doesn't require a sheet music expert to play (the chord diagrams and fingering numbers should remind you want to do).

Exeter City March was composed for the professional Football (soccer) Club in Exeter, UK, for performance over the public address system by the 100-strong Exeter Children's Orchestra. It includes parts for hooligans in the percussion section playing rattles and whistles (these don't sound in the MP3). There was an online competition for the club's fans to choose a title; they chose March of the Grecians (the club's nickname) but as the brief introduction uses the beginning of Rule Britannia I think listeners might be mystified by the Greek allusion, so I prefer my original title! In June 2011 Exeter City March was broadcast on the UK national music radio station, BBC Radio 3, as part of its festival of light music Light Fantastic. There are separate printed parts for all the standard orchestral instruments, including alto and tenor saxophone and descant recorder (not necessary) and there are also optional parts for violin replacing viola, trombone in treble clef, baritone saxophone and horn in E flat.

While on vacation, Ravel played a melody for a friend and remarked, Don't you think this theme has an insistent quality? I'm going to try and repeat it a number of times without any development, gradually increasing the orchestra (volume) as best I can. Bolero for Two Violins is both fun to play and exciting to hear. .
