String quartet - Grade 3 - Digital Download SKU: DX.169409 Composed by John Mason Neale. Arranged by Dana F. Everson. Sacred instrumental music. Key of G. Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music #169409. Published by David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music (DX.169409). Traditional string quartet with opt. violin part for viola. The introduction begins in a somewhat solemn nature, building in tension and then in repose where it introduces the hymn Savior Like A Shepherd Lead Us. The texture is in a traditional harmonization with the tune in the first violin where it gives over to the cello on the chorus with gentle punctuations in the upper voices. An imitative motif serves as a transition progresses leading into He Leadeth Me with the tune in the cello. The violin takes over with a modified tune and then in a fughetta-like series of entrances leads into a modulation where the cello expresses the tune with the upper voices accompanying with moving rhythms. The tune of All The Way My Savior Leads Me is presented by the viola with a violin obbligato overhead leading into a full ensemble with rich and moving harmonies. A change of meters gives way to a change of counterpoint and God Leads Us Along. Here, it moves amongst the various parts and gives way to sweet release.

Euphonium,Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1141957 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Chamber,Children,Classical. 65 pages. Sy Brandon #742334. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.1141957). “Allegories†is a five-movement composition based upon Aesop’s Fables. It was commissioned by and dedicated to Frank Meredith. The first movement “The Trumpeter Taken Captive†is a fable about how one’s actions affect the outcome. The trumpeter, who incites others to do battle, is as guilty as those who slay the enemy. The euphonium represents the trumpeter by playing battle tunes. Then the ensemble plays capture music, begging music, fatal music representing the slaying of the trumpeter (euphonium), and finally music representing the moral of the story. “The Boy Who Cried Wolf†is the basis for the second movement. The allegory is that nobody believes a liar. The flute plays a shepherd’s tune to represent the bored shepherd boy. The ensemble plays excited music three times as the boy cries wolf, the first two times just to amuse himself. After the third time when nobody responds to his cries, the flute plays a lament to end the movement. The third movement reflects the story of “The Goose That Laid The Golden Egg.†A golden euphonium melody accompanied by rich harmony represents the golden eggs laid by the goose. The ensemble then plays greedy music that is followed by a minor key lament as the farmer has killed his rich source of income because of his greed. A sweet dancing flute solo begins movement four appropriately named “The Fisherman and His Flute.†This short fable has the allegory of “timing is everything.†The poor fisherman expected the fish to jump out of the sea in response to his flute playing to no avail. When the ensemble plays a similar tune, it represents his success when he uses his net. The fisherman says “you bloody fish, when I played the flute you wouldn’t dance, but as soon I stopped, you started up.†The race between the “Tortoise and the Hare†is the subject of the last movement. The plodding euphonium represents the tortoise and the fast and agile flute represents the hare. The flute takes a nap in the middle of the movement and by the time the flute wakes up, it is too late to catch up with the slow and steady tortoise. The race is not always to the swift.

DaCapo Primary Music #904157. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1315421). This book contains 66 songs for the instrumentalistThe Complete Instrumentalist Two is the second book in a series for instrumental players, designed to help develop excellent musicianship. It is written in stick notation* with an additional five line stave so that pupils or teachers can write out the music in whichever clef or key they choose to use. The songs are grouped by the number of notes in the piece and are mostly diatonic with a few pentatonic and modal pieces. As with all of the DaCapo books it is left to the teachers to decide which section of the book to start with. Tempos and dynamic markings are also left to the teachers and pupils. We have suggested activities that can be applied to the entire repertoire and there are some extra ideas for specific pieces included on some pages, along with extra information for the pupil. In many instances the songs have been reworded as it was felt that the subject matter or use of language was a barrier for some pupils. There are a few pieces where this may still be true but we have decided against rewording because of the cultural or historical aspect of the song and the opportunity to educate children beyond the music (e.g. spirituals).Whilst every attempt has been made to source music in the public domain we would like to know if errors have been made. We hope that you enjoy the next step to becoming a Complete Instrumentalist.Jane Cutler Carl Herring 2012*stick notationThe purpose of stick notation is to build excellent inner hearing. You can't guess the intervals – they have to be known or learned via the solfa in order to hear the music from the page. Pupils can then translate and transfer this to their instrument and then onto a five-line stave.• We show the rhythm only - with solfa syllables under the relevant note• No note head used unless for a minim, dotted minim or semibreve• The home note or tonic of each piece is indicated by an emboldened solfa syllable e.g. d r m f s shows do as the tonic • Where notes fall under or above the home note or tonic, they are indicated thus: s, d’• A tick’( I ) has been used instead of bar lines. You can find more DaCapo pieces for young instrumentalists at DaCapo Music Shop

Published by Pete Strohm Music (A0.928161). Sonata No. 3 for Trombone and Piano was written for American trombonist Mark Lawrence. It is tonal throughout, in three movements. The work is demanding in both technique and ensemble, but should be truly enjoyable to play and hear. The first movement, marked Moderato giocoso, is in sonata form in the key of G. The exposition is played muted, moving abruptly into a driving and open development, centered in D minor. The recap starts open, then re-employs the mute for a quiet close. The second movement is a beautiful, flowing song Lento con espressione, in D-flat major. It shifts to C# minor for a muted mid-section, then returns to the open horn in D-flat major to close.  The third movement is marked Allegro gioioso.  It is a driving 2/4, based around C Major, and briefly muted in the middle. Difficulty level for both instruments is medium-advanced. Total performance time is 15:30.  Member, ASCAP.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767606 Composed by Mike Lyons. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 80 pages. Lyons Music Services #6703123. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767606). Originally a horn quartet inspired by a conversation about writing for horns. There are three movements. The first movement is called Canon. It consists of a simple theme that is presented in imitation by each of the four 'voices' first at 2 bar intervals then, in inversion at four bar intervals and then in the original form at one bar intervals. There is a linking fanfare-like passage before the final statement of the original motif with fanfare-like adaptations. The second movement is called Lullaby. The elegant, drifting melody is passed around the four players with a largely chordal accompaniment pattern that needs to be played sotto voce at all times. The tempo is marked Largo, but it is still one-in-a-bar.The third movement is called Hullabaloo-haloo-haloo. While it is based on a 6/8 cantering rhythm, there is a lot of variation in both the accompaniment and the melody. Again, all the lines have a lot of interest, nobody has to play simple um-chucks, and there's even a solo for the lower tuba at the end.Enjoy.This is a really enjoyable and exciting new addition to the low brass quartet repertoire.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.584669 Composed by Jeff Tincher. Contemporary. Score and parts. 47 pages. Jeff Tincher #6017763. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.584669). This composition begins with a 4/4 March. I wanted to write a composition that started with a simple chord. As the march progresses I added a mote here and there. Each note added continues until a complete musical composition is formed. But it doesn't stop there. Once the composition is formed it progresses to a solemn, smooth 5/4 section. This section then breaks apart to where each instrument has a solo. Then the solos are combined before it returns to the original rhythm with a different chord. Hear the full version of composition on Jeff Tincher's For String Quartet CD. Duration = 6:57. They have orders to shoot the leading dancer (played by Ray Bolger in the original production). The dancer, who has been warned just in time, evades them by suddenly dancing at full speed even after the ballet actually ends, and finally two police officers enter and arrest the gangsters.
