Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1026133 Composed by Christian Petzold (1677-1733). Arranged by Richard Jones. Baroque,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 52 pages. Richard Jones #5968417. Published by Richard Jones (A0.1026133). Until the 1970s the Minuet in G Major was attributed to the great Johann Sebastian Bach. For centuries musicologists believed it was an original composition as it was a part of the manuscript notebook compiled by Bach and his wife Anna Magdalena Bach, in 1725.Petzold was born in Konigstein, Germany, in 1677 and little is known about his exact birth date. Relatively few pieces ofhis have survived the centuries, but the inclusion of his two minuets in the Anna Magdalena Notebook, remain the most famous of these. The theme to the Minuet in G was used in 1966 by the American pop group The Toys, in their song 'A Lover's Concerto'.In this arrangement I have syncopated the theme and accompanying parts to create a jazz feel. From letter A the theme appears in the cornet and euphonium lines and then at letter B the theme is transferred to the horn section. Whilst the theme is in the horn section there is a counter riff in the baritones and trombones, and a simple jazz syncopation in the cornets. At C the key changes to the sub-dominant key of C and the back row cornets get the tune in a simple but syncopated form whilst a flowing counter melody continues in the lower instruments. Then at D the euphoniums, baritones and basses have their chance and the syncopation appears in the horns and interjections in the cornets. After the D.S the the piece goes to the Coda, which hasthe tune split between each of the sections of the band with a fortissimo climax.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120365 By Philip Le Bas. By J-B Lully / G Bizet. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christmas,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Traditional. Octavo. 8 pages. Philip Le Bas #721616. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1120365). A new arrangement by Philip Le Bas of a thirteenth century French Christmas carol from Provence harmonized by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-87, attrib.) and, more famously, by Georges Bizet (1838-75, in his L'Arlesienne Suite of 1872.) In France the melody is still tightly associated with Christmas, and French audiences start singing their own Christmas words whenever they hear the melody (the arranger has heard it himself!) The English translation used here is adapted from a variety of sources. The three kings (or more precisely the magi from St Matthew's gospel) are seen marching towards Bethlehem with their fantastic golden wealth and grandeur. But why are they going to see a low-born baby and why do they worship this child who will die on a cross? The organ sets the scene from the beginning with its marching accompaniment, and the first verse is sung in unison by all three parts. The second begins with a canon, as used by Bizet, and then breaks into harmony. The first section of the third verse is much quieter and legato, sung by the sopranos and altos, using wonderful chromatic harmonies based on another section from Bizet's suite. The lyrics express wonder at the beautiful music heard from the camp of the kings. The second section, sung in differentiated unison then begins to wonder why the kings stoop so low to a baby in a manger. Finally the fourth verse, sung in full harmony, returns to the marching accompaniment and reiterates the amazement of meeting these kings with their mysterious mission. The carol is aimed at parish choirs with limited resources, but a good organist. The melody is well-known, much of it is in unison, and other sections are relatively easy to sing. Care should however should be taken to sing the dotted rhythms accurately - this is what gives the carol its marching character.

Brass trio - Grade 2.5 - Digital Download SKU: DX.145304 Composed by Phoebe P. Knapp. Arranged by Dana F. Everson. Sacred instrumental music. Key of Bb, Eb, F, Ab. Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music #145304. Published by David E. Smith - Digital Sheet Music (DX.145304). A brass trio scored for trumpet, horn (opt. trp.) and trombone, (opt BHTC), the introduction uses the opening passes of the hymn and then modulates upward to the hymn now harmonized where it modulates even further now with more counterpoint amongst the voices. The middle section of the work modulates even further to a rather fughetta like setting. After yet another modulation the piece introduces music from Jesus Paid It All and then motivically develops to the Coda where the piece ends in repose.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024064 Composed by Roger Ramirez. Contemporary. Score. 9 pages. Roger Ramirez #62225. Published by Roger Ramirez (A0.1024064). Water is serene, soothing, calming, but also chaotic, unpredictable, and at times relentless. Follow the story of the song as you are taken on a journey. A personal experience inspired this dynamic piano solo. It begins with a simple motif that depicts looking out over the ocean which is then followed by getting into the water. The next section, also the longest, goes through the process of losing control to the water and the realization of possibly drowning. The frantic section is followed by a contrasting section, which imitates a lost and worn out feeling. This part demonstrates the feeling of helplessness and the acceptance that it might end, but is then followed by a phrase that is repeated in different keys. Finally, the triumphant section plays the previous phrase once more with fuller chords and a key signature, bringing back structure and sanity to this experience. Though, an accidental in this section leaves the feeling that tension may still be in the experience and that not all was fully well.

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811191 Composed by Mark Narins. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and part. 101 pages. Gordon Cherry #6069485. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811191). Cherry Classics is pleased to introduce Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra 2020 (Piano reduction) by San Francisco based composer/conductor Mark Narins. The concerto is in 4 movements: I. Prayer, II. Meditation, III. Call and Response, IV. Exaltation Here is a description of the work by Mark Narins, the composer: Prayer: The first movement starts with a shimmering tremolo in the strings over which the silver voice of the trombone plays an arching phrase that lingers on an extended appoggiatura. The trombone is a lone mystic reaching for the sky and then falling perilously down to the pedal register. Later the orchestra breaks into a frenetic vamp over which the trombone plays intense ascending scales and passage work. The movement ends with an ascent to a high C#, moving to a final ringing high C.   Meditation: After the harp lays out a series of arpeggiated chords, the trombone plays a warm, rich theme in the middle range. The following episodes are variations on this theme. The trombone moves into the upper register, floating with the ease of a lead trombone in a big band. The movement ends with an ascending yearning phrase reaching a high D as the soloist touches the sky and then comes gently back to earth. Call and Response: The orchestral accompaniment starts in an anxious, mysterious tonality. The trombone enters with a burst of energy playing a machine gun series of Fs. The movement develops into a series of short brilliant solo passages answered boldly by the orchestra. This movement showcases the stunning declamatory powers of the trombone. Exaltation: Movement 4 starts as an allegro with intense tremolos in the basses.  The trombone breaks out into an articulated driving theme followed by several extended melodic passages. Midway in the movement the strings abruptly lay out a syncopated Latin dance rhythm over which the trombone climbs from the bottom to the top of its range in rapid triplets. In the final codetta the trombone accelerates the dance tempo and climaxes on a series of high C#s in a brilliant and joyous fashion.  The concerto is 27 minutes in duration and is appropriate for advanced performers. This version with Piano is a reduction of the full Orchestral version (to be published in the near future). The new Trombone Concerto by Mark Narins is a very exciting piece with dramatic contrasts between the slow and fast sections. The move to the finish of the piece makes for a great wrap-up. It's a real blow for the player, really exploring the range of the instrument. It will be demanding and fun for the trombonist.   Ken Andresen, New York freelance musician

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1015783 Composed by Friedrich Stern. Concert,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Vicente Trompieri #5955307. Published by Vicente Trompieri (A0.1015783). An original piano piece.Listen to the mp3 to become familiar with the piece, then practice with the metronome. First at a low speed then you gradually increase the speed to the indicated speed. If you want more natural practice use the foot beat as a metronome. It’s important you become aware of the beats during the whole learning process of the piece until it becomes automatic. Also follow the voice leading for each hand. I tried to do the voice leading when I compose this piece the most natural and anatomical for both hands. The piece is very piano-like and has a full sound.

Piano - Digital Download SKU: RX.9783737803298 Sheet music for piano. Composed by Mulo Francel, Quandro Nuevo. Text language: English. World music. 4 pages. Published by Roba Music Verlag (RX.9783737803298). This song is a travelling song written under the impression of several tours through South and East Europe, the Balkans and around the Black Sea. Dedicated to Jason, the hero of the Greek mythology, it has to be played in a hymnic manner. Jason went on a most adventurous journey to the very outermost coast of the Black Sea with this motley entourage - the Argonauts - in order to seize the Golden Fleece, a gigantic golden ram skin. Just about where the Georgian city of Batumi is today. If you would like to know more about it, you may want to read the chapter “Die Reise nach Batumi†(The Journey to Batumi) in our roadbook “Quadro Nuevo: Grand Voyage. To every person who is interested in these old myths, I recommend the books of the author and journalist Michael Kohlmeier, for example his amusing interpretations of the Sagen des Klassischen Altertums (Sagas of the classical antiquity). Just East of Batumi the Caucasus begins, with its colourful mixture of ancient peoples and cultures. I have always been fascinated with musicians who originate from this region. For example the composer Aram Katschaturian or the pianist David Gazarov, with whom I often play concerts. An Eastern groove suits this song well, quite comparable to a fast rumba. I suggest you play the intro (may be extended) and the theme (measures 6 to 39) first. Then you may improvise freely over the AABA-form of the theme. The last solo part is shortened because the B-part leads into a percussion solo. This percussion solo may be omited. After the last complete solo part you can repeat the theme and then play the al fine. For Improvisation: On a separate sheet I am offering some scales to the chords of the song in various transpositions, which is helpful as basic material for improvisations. Some chords (like the very first one) fit several different scales. Decide for yourself which one you prefer. Or maybe even make up your own. Even though these notes may sound right with the chords, one thing always holds true in creative music: There should be no dogmatic wrong or right. Sometimes what seems like a wrong note, could give the progression of the melody its special colour, tension and spice. Sometimes an improvisation with exclusive right notes is correct in music theory, but sounds terribly boring. Besides, every improviser is encouraged to happily help themselves to the chromatics. All of this is only a suggestion. Music becomes exciting and colourful when the basic material is interpreted in an imaginative and creative way!

Bassoon Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869405 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Individual part. 16 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #483257. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869405). Each year I would compose a birthday present for my wife's granddaughter, Becky. I started with a solo bassoon piece. Then I wrote a bassoon duo for her and her teacher. Then Becky told me she has a friend who plays the violin. So I wrote her a duo for violin and bassoon. The next year her brother took up the double bass, so I wrote a duo for bassoon and double bass and called it A Canon for the Under Belly. Last year she told me she formed a wind trio with flute, clarinet and bassoon. So I did that for her. This year I decided that I would write something a bit more serious for her, a bassoon quartet. It is in six short movements and the last one is a fugue!!!
