Capriccio was originally written as a piece for unaccompanied clarinet in 1984 while I was a clarinet student at the University of North Carolina, School of the Arts in Winston Salem, NC under the tutelage of Robert Listokin. Bob Listokin was one of greatest individuals I’ve ever known. He taught me so much more than how to play the clarinet. His example of love, humility, and kindness has been a guiding force throughout my life. This little piece was written while I was little more than a child and one of the few compositions that I would risk publishing today. As I sat down to revise it, I was amazed at how it foreshadowed many of the defining characteristics of my current style. The piece has been murmuring in the back of my mind for thirty-six years much in the same way that I still feel Mr. Listokin’s gentle hand on my shoulder telling me to relax. Duration - 3:20

With the global pandemic, many are struggling with physical illness or health challenges, personal trial, loss, or life's difficulties. Like many others, in these challenging times, I turn to music. ...like a small boat...sending big waves into motion Fight Song, written by Rachel Platten and Davve Bassett, has become an anthem of faith and belief for any person that is going through a challenge and brings comfort to many. The song was recorded in 2014 and won iHeartRadio's Music Award for Best Lyrics. When I pick songs to arrange, they are often ones that play over and over in my brain. I've been working on this one for several weeks. My arrangement is for the early advanced player. The arrangement starts quite simply but builds and builds into powerful repetitions of the chorus with arpeggios in the left hand and in the right hand and lots of fun crashing chords. It is a reflection on his warm, generous spirit, with the kind of romantic harmonies he so loved. I should also admit that the music is unabashedly sentimental in places, so don't hesitate to put a bit of soul in it! Reflection has been categorized as advanced because of the challenge in managing both the melody and part of the accompaniment in one hand, while maintaining legato playing throughout. That said, I've been told by pianists who have performed it that it's agreeable to play. So please, see for yourself. Give it a try!
