Sonata in d minor, Op.5-7 was originally composed for solo violin & basso coutinuo.  It is a trio in actuality, because basso coutinuo is usually consisted of a keyboard and a violoncello.  However, there is a very beautiful performance by violin and violoncello duo (for example, the CD performed by Lumiere Duo, Lumiere Records). The music was arranged for violin and viola.  Almost all part of the score is very faithful to the original.  In the third movement, obbligato part by violin was appended for making viola play some parts of the solo melody.
