String Orchestra - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1080129 By The Chainsmokers. By Andrew Taggart, Emily Schwartz, and Scott Harris. Arranged by Matt Arnett. Pop. Score and parts. 19 pages. Matt Arnett Music #684341. Published by Matt Arnett Music (A0.1080129). This song works shockingly well for orchestra - and everyone gets something fun to play. I did this arrangement with 2nd year students in mind. The piece is really good for focusing on low 2's in the violin and viola, dotted quarter AND triplet rhythms for everyone, and rests on beat 1. The rhythms are almost always true to the original - listen to it with your students to help them feel the tricky spots. You need a strong bass laying down the harmonic foundation throughout for this to work, cello is not doubling. There are usually three independent rhythmic parts going on, which presents a fun challenge and makes the layers of the piece fun and interesting. The piece also utilizes some fun techniques including stomping on the floor (sounds awesome on stage!) and knocking on the back of the instrument. There is an optional cut to remove the bridge if the piece is too much/too long for your group. This piece is a blast to play and I hope your students enjoy it!

String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942953 Composed by Geoffrey Peterson. Contemporary. Score and parts. 43 pages. Geoffrey Peterson #4267231. Published by Geoffrey Peterson (A0.942953). Link to complete recording: https://soundcloud.com/geoffrey-peterson/sets/the-edmund-fitzgerald-concerto On November 9th, 1975, the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald left port in Superior, Wisconsin. The 729-foot-long iron ore carrier, loaded with 26 thousand tons of taconite pellets for the auto industry, was bound for Detroit. Earlier that day, the weather service had issued a gale warning. This was not unusual, considering that gale storms are typical during November on Lake Superior. The Fitzgerald’s Captain, Ernest McSorley, and her 29-member crew headed northeast unaware of the maelstrom they would soon encounter. At around 2 a.m., Bernie Cooper, captain of the Arthur M. Andersen, another freighter which was following a few miles behind the Fitzgerald, radioed Captain McSorley to consult with him about the worsening storm. They had both decided to take a more northerly route along the Canadian shore, which they hoped would provide some shelter from the violent gale winds and waves. The Fitzgerald’s long-range radar stopped working the following day and was needed in order to avoid Six-Fathom Shoal, a shallow area of Lake Superior that could rupture the ship’s hull. McSorley soon radioed the Anderson to report that the Fitzgerald had sustained some topside damage...a fence rail down, two vents lost or damaged, and a starboard list. A list meant that the Fitzgerald was taking on too much water and was causing it to lean to one side. The short-range radar also stopped working, and the radio direction beacon from nearby Whitefish Point vanished. This would make it impossible for the Fitzgerald to reach the lee waters of Whitefish Bay and escape the 80 mph winds churning 20 to 30-foot waves. At 7:10 p.m. that night, First Mate Morgan Clark of the Andersen radioed the Fitzgerald to see how they were doing. Captain McSorley replied, We’re holding our own. This was the last contact anyone would have with the Fitzgerald. Shortly thereafter, the Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared from the Anderson’s radar screen. All 29 of her crew were lost on November 10th, 1975. The Edmund Fitzgerald chronicles the tragic final voyage of the well-known shipwreck in 4 movements; Embarkment, The Gales, Six-Fathom Shoal (We’re holding our own.) and Entombment-Dirge. The concerto makes use of several musical quotes. The first is Spanish Ladies, an English sea chantey, which appears in both the 1st and 3rd movements. The second is the funeral march theme from the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony which is heard in the 4th movement of the concerto. In addition, a chime is rung 29 times during the final bars of the concerto to memorialize the men who lost their lives. The Crew of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald: Michael E. Armagost, Frederick J. Beetcher, Thomas D. Bentsen, Edward F. Bindon, Thomas D. Borgeson, Oliver J. Champeau, Nolan S. Church, Ransom E. Cundy, Thomas E. Edwards, Russell G. Haskell, George J. Holl, Bruce L. Hudson, Allen G. Kalmon, Gordon F. MacLellan, Joseph W. Mazes, John H. McCarthy, Ernest M. McSorley, Eugene W. O'Brien, Karl A. Peckol, John J. Poviach, James A. Pratt, Robert C. Rafferty, Paul M. Riippa, John D. Simmons, William J. Spengler, Mark A. Thomas, Ralph G. Walton, David E. Weiss, Blaine H. Wilhelm.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971967 Composed by Alisa Tomlinson. Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Score and parts. 15 pages. Alisa Tomlinson #3113513. Published by Alisa Tomlinson (A0.971967). Viola players can feel left out of the fun when they keep getting all the left over notes. All the cool melodies are split between the violins and the cellos while the bass plays moving bass lines but the poor viola, left to the last bits of harmony no one else is using. But in Voila Viola!, the viola is the star! The cheerful melody allows room for the viola to really express itself while being backed by moving harmonies. This piece is great for teaching timing and listening to the other players. Wide ranging eighth notes dominate this piece with emphasis on the viola's changing melodies while the backing harmonies keep the piece with the playfulness of pizzicato.

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PR-0005643 Score. Composed by Richard Meyer. Instructional. Score. 24 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PR-0005643. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PR-0005643). UPC: 038081518503.Written to celebrate the 110th Anniversary of the Joliet Township High School Orchestras of Illinois, Stone and Steel is a modern concert overture by Richard Meyer that treats the listener and performer to a myriad of styles and moods. The piece begins with a heavy, ponderous theme marked Molto pesante, which depicts the limestone quarries that first earned Joliet the nickname City of Stone in the early 1800s. The mood soon changes and we can visualize huge barges laden down with stone, making their way through the city's large lift bridges and into the famous Illinois and Michigan Canal on their way to regional customers. With the construction of a steel mill in 1869, Joliet became known as the City of Steel. Stone and steel were now shipped by both canal and railroad, and this exciting new age is represented by a modern, fast-moving theme in a bright major key. The two themes, stone and steel, are then further developed, and the piece culminates in a majestic, celebratory final statement of the steel theme. (6:00)Concert/Contest; Festival.

Daniels (A0.503599). “Golden Morning†is a striking piece for String Orchestra that evokes images of the slow emergence of the sun from its night-time slumber and all of the bustle of nature in response. It expands and contracts with harsh and harmonious chords and ends with the sound of the sun bursting forth. It works well as a piece for string orchestra or string quintet.IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR ENSEMBLE TO GAIN MORE MEDIA EXPOSURE, please record your performance of this piece and email it to CustomMusic@Salt-Cellar-Creations.com.
