Bastion Square March is named after the famous Bastion Square found in Victoria, B.C. Canada.  Research states that many of the buildings in Bastion Square were haunted by previous residents of the buildings in the area.  This composition is a typical march with First Violin parts ascending into third and fifth position.  However, whenever this happens in the part it is double by a lower First Violin part in case the upper part is a little too challenging.  The entire march ends with strains of Rule Brittania which I felt appropriate because Victoria is known in British Columbia, Canada as a little bit of England.

Back to School Blues by Tim Crooks for String Orchestra (beginner-ABRSM Grade 2).

Originally written for the Young String Programme at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester UK, this fun Blues piece has been tried and tested on young string players. Technical elements include low 2nd fingers, retakes, and D.S al Coda markings.

The arrangement includes an open string part suitable for Violin, Viola and Cello provided as both notation and graphic rhythm score with colour strings colours / string letter names. Only one open string stave is shown on the score, but parts for Violin, Viola and Cello are included in this set.

God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, traditional Christmas carol, arranged by Tim Crooks for String Ensemble (ABRSM Beginner - grade 5).

This jazzy 7/8 version cranks up the traditional carol into more of a party rendition, but remaining regular enough so it can still be sung by a congregation or school choir. Perfect for ending carol services and Christmas performances.

Technical challenges are mostly rhythmic, but 7/8 patterns are strong and repeat so is suitable for good intermediate groups (ABRSM grade 4+).

The arrangement also includes an optional easy part for Violin & Viola suitable for ABRSM grade 2+ level players.

Piano and percussion parts are included but are optional for performance.

This arrangement is technically approachable, with some short passages in 3rd position. It can be played comfortably by players of ABRSM grade 3-4 level (intermediate). There are also simpler parts for Violin, Viola, Cello & Bass at approx. Grade 2 level.
