Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.886424

Composed by 15th-century German carol. Arranged by Frederic Bacon-Shone. Christian,Christmas,Sacred. Octavo. 4 pages. Heather Bacon-Shone #2329273. Published by Heather Bacon-Shone (A0.886424).

This lilting Christmas song, based on a 15th-century German carol, is arranged in call-and-response style for solo voice and harmonized SATB choir, with organ (or piano) accompaniment. The solo voice part is pitched at mid-range and could be sung by soprano, alto, tenor, or bass. For variety, the solo voice part could also be doubled or performed solo by instruments such as violin, clarinet, flute, etc. Alternatively, the solo part could be sung by the congregation in unison, with the church choir providing the responses in harmony. The carol and accompaniment are easy and accessible for any choir. With the words for 8 verses included, this carol works well when a song of variable length is needed, such as for communion, a processional, or congregational candle-lighting. Liturgical use: Christmas, Advent.

Composed by James Siddons. 20th Century,Children,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred. Octavo. 19 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #4898821. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972652).

This anthem is a choral fantasia on the Reformation hymn Aus tiefer Noth. The text is the English translation by Catherine Winkworth (1827-1878) of Martin Luther's versification of Psalm 130, known in the Latin liturgy as the De profundis (Psalm 129). It is found in many English hymnals Out of the Depths. The chorale tune associated with Aus tiefer Noth is attributed to Martin Luther; it appeared in Johann Walther's chorale-book of 1524. Using this five-hundred year old tune, this anthem draws on 15th-century Flemish polyphony and mid-20th century jazz (specifically, parallel motion of block-chords, walking bass, and major-seventh chords) for its tonal character. This work calls for optional organ and SSATB choir, in which the Soprano I part may be sung by children.

This psalm is most associated with Lent, penitential worship, funerals, and worship following tragedies and catastrophes.

The present setting was composed by James Siddons in January 1989, and is the first in his long series of settings and interpretations of the Psalms for a wide variety of vocal and instrumental combinations and musical styles.

Composed by David W. Barber. A Cappella,Christian,Early Music,Jazz,Medieval. 25 pages. David W. Barber #920028. Published by David W. Barber (A0.1333731).

I wrote this piece in 2018 to mark the 50th anniversary

of the Toronto Chamber Choir, a fine early music choir I have sung with since 1998.

Using the  opening of the well-known Gregorian chant Gaudeamus omnes (and changing

the text to let us rejoice in music, Gaudeamus is a five- minute musical history tour

through the various time periods the TCC sings. It begins with plainchant, then two-voice

organum of the 11th-century Notre Dame school of Leonin and Perotin, followed by

three-voice hocket of a slightly later period. Then a nod to the 15th-century Dufay motet

Nuper rosarum flores (which the TCC has performed.) Next comes some 16th-century

Tudor music -- Byrd, say -- including some false relations and a typical English cadence.

Then comes an allusion to Purcell, specifically the pleasing dissonance of the “voice of the

Turtle†from My Beloved Spake. Then comes a little Bach-like fugue (or fughetta) based on

the Gaudeamus motif. Since the TCC rarely performs Classic/Romantic repertoire, we

jump immediately to a jazzy ending in compound meter -- imagine Byrd meets Brubeck,

based on one of my own earlier pieces for solo piano, but with elements of the Gaudeamus

melody. And all that in five minutes. Phew!

SKU: A0.998890

Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,A Cappella,Advent,Christmas,Sacred. 6 pages. Robert A. Howard #6496055. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998890).

This carol for unaccompanied SATB choir sets a well known but anonymous 15th Century text. The five verses pass through a sequence of keys, returning to the opening key for the final one. Each verse begins with a simple melody, initially stated alone, then appearing in various canonic forms on subsequent verses. This is then always followed by a rich chordal passage of 'added note' harmonies, in a reverential and meditative manner. The piece is designed for most good choirs to be able to perform unaccompanied, and parts invariably move by semitone or tone movement. It is appropriate for any size of 4-part choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs.

By Alicia Domínguez Arcos Sonay. By Alicia Domínguez Arcos. Arranged by Alicia Domínguez Arcos. A Cappella,Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,Opera,World. 20 pages. Alicia Dominguez #950447. Published by Alicia Dominguez (A0.1366086).

Restaurador is a historical opera about the time in which it was restored (in the 19th century it would be called reconquistar, while in the 15th century it was called restoration), taking advantage of the strong internal crises of the Muslim world in the South of Spain. Alfonso de Arcos was part of the restoration of Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz), the town of Estepona (Málaga), helping many situations in North Africa, Alcazarseguer (Morocco), being mayor of Tarifa and who treasured the idea of situation and who will take Gibraltar, being its first mayor. In his last years he settled in Seville in the Monastery of Santa Maria de las Cuevas in La Cartuja, where he died. In which everything received in this historical period testamentally, his inheritance, was not given to the family, but to all the needy people of Tarifa and Gibraltar, and whoever needed it via the Cartuja monastery itself. This was the case with his entire inheritance for 200 years. Of which the family is very proud.
Today Alicia Dominguez Arcos is from the Arcos family, the generational wave of Alfonso de Arcos. And today she is the first of this family branch who by chance was born in the area. Since the familiar roads are found in other Spanish cities.
This Restorer for “Ibero-America is sung in choir†with SATBB voices in Spanish and English, with moments and words in both Latin and medieval Castilian. They are fragments of the fourth act of the opera, in which Alfonso de Arcos is already in his last moments, already being mayor of Tarifa, and being the first mayor of Gibraltar, circumstances of the will, situations with the friars in the monastery of the Cartuja as with the trance of his death.
Being an important time in the southern area of Spain, specifically in the Campo of the Gibraltar.
