Here is a new setting of the 15th century text by John Audelay known alternatively as There Is a Flower or The Flower of Jesse. The text has been adapted into contemporary English. The multiple verses of the poem are set with slight modifications to the melody, and the harmony and choral texture are also changed with each verse. The listener and performer will immediately notice the juxtaposition of D major and D minor tonality which is the biggest challenge for the singers. The organ accompaniment provides full support for much of the work making it accessible for most four-part choirs and a nice addition into the Advent and Christmas repertoire.

This arrangement of Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming takes a fresh look at the beloved 16th century Marian hymn. The familiar melody is now restructured into the gently asymmetrical 3+2+2 rhythm of a 7/8 meter. The music flows out, with that slight asymmetry giving an attractive lilt to the well-known tune. As with the rhythmic structure, the harmony is also reconsidered. Sonorities from related tonalities appear, providing new colors to enhance the well-known theme. The choral parts are attractive and singable, each part having a turn at the melody. Suitable for an intermediate to intermediate/advanced choir. A beautiful floaty version of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac for SATB voices. There are some light crossovers in the Tenor and Bass parts, but it's a very easy arrangement that comes alive with dynamics and storytelling with your ensemble.

The piano part is written in the absence of having an acoustic guitar - it would be BEAUTIFUL to layer both piano and guitar to help build up the arrangement to be bigger towards the end. 

This arrangement is a gorgeous way to highlight your Alto section too as they have the melody throughout - it's simple, but oh so lovely!

Composer Roger Hodgson stated on his Facebook page [24 March 2020] Even in the Quietest Moments was written during a very powerful time of Spiritual searching and discovery for me. I used to spend time alone in nature, camping, and one night while playing my guitar and looking up at the stars, the song came to me; it just flowed out of me. It’s a love song to God but it could also be to a woman. I’ve left it ambiguous so that people can take it how they wish. Basically, it’s just about a guy who’s searching. I’m a seeker. I think I’ll always be a seeker.

The change of wording from 'Come on, let the sun' to 'The morning sun' is deliberate, based on singing wrong words to the album track as a child!

This is a choral arrangement of a classic Filipino folk song by Alberto Florentino titled Leron Leron Sinta. Since I am a big admirer of one of the most famous composers in the Philippines, Ryan Cayabyab, this arrangement I made was heavily inspired by Da Coconut Nut, particularly its scat singing characteristics. I've added some introduction, outro, and various modulations to make this arrangement somewhat more interesting.

This mele is about a love affair at Hiʻilawe (highest waterfall in Hawaiʻi) and Waioʻulu, two waterfalls in Waipiʻo Valley on the Big Island. The girl, from Puna, describes herself poetically as the fragrance from Puna. Distressed by the gossip mongers, she calls them chattering birds. Mist of the mountains in the 3rd verse is the poetic way of saying this is a secret love affair. L�l�kea and Hakalaoa are streams at the top of Waipʻio Valley that flow over the cliff forming the twin waterfalls of Hiʻilawe and Hakalaoa. They merge into the Hiʻilawe stream that is one of two main waterways in Waipiʻo Valley.

A great, upbeat latin chart for your set! This exciting, upbeat bossa nova features a great melody set atop energizing stop-time rhythmic figures provided by the band. The Portuguese lyric is sung in unison by women, then joined by the men in prime unison. The flowing, harmonized bridge sets the bossa nova in motion, with beautiful voice leading typical of the style during the two-part passages.  Following a two bar drum solo, the stop-time melody changes to an English lyric. A modulatory interlude leads to a vocal scat solo with punchy vocal group background figures. The instrumental vamp returns, setting up a big conclusion!
