Josef Anton Bruckner was a deeply religious man. Â Born in Austria, his father was his first music teacher who taught him to play the organ. Â It was noted that he was so dedicated to music that he often practiced up to 12 hours a day.
This Ave Maria was performed during his debut as a composer and conductor in 1861. Â It was later published in Vienna in 1867.
Although this is a sacred motet, as an instrumental piece, it can be performed in any setting. Â
Scored for flute choir - 5 C, alto, and bass. Â Optional parts are contrabass and cello (doubling the bass part). Â This is not a difficult piece, but it requires good breath support to sustain long tones in tune at a slow tempo.
Duration: 2.5 minutes.
