In the Hall of the Mountain King was originally written by Edvard Grieg as incidental music (basically background music) for a scene in Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. The truly distinctive sound has ensured that the piece has continued to be played and arranged for all sorts of groups in the almost century-and-a-half since the play was first performed. This particular arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for a Bb clarinet quartet. The melody jumps between all four parts and players will need to be able to play most of the range of the instrument regardless of which part they are playing. That said, most intermediate players should be able to play this piece given they have the range and it will be a challenge for less experienced players. The whole work is very well known but the chorale from the Jupiter movement is often considered to be one of the most well written pieces of music in the Western Classical canon. The chorale has been arranged for clarinet trio by Mark R Lewis. The arrangement is not difficult at all with most of the difficulty coming from the range that needs to be played and/or playing with musicality beyond the notes and rhythms. That said, just about any high school student and most advanced middle school students will be able to play any part.
