This is an arrangement of Cheyenne, written by Bill Monroe. I've incorporated my favorite elements of both Kenny Baker and Bobby Hicks playing styles. Complete with detailed fingerings and bow markings and careful consideration in regards to phrasing and playability. Alternate fingerings are offered below the staff that may benefit violinists with smaller hands.

I recommend practicing the chords slowly and following the bowing closely, especially in section A. As with all fiddle tunes, it's a good idea to memorize the music so that it flows smoothly. This is a legendary bluegrass tune composed by Bill Monroe. I have written in bowings that give it, in my humble opinion, the right feel, momentum, playability and phrasing. These decisions were a mix of phrasing elements borrowed from Kenny Baker's playing, as well as my own. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Hey there, this is Bill Monroe's Lonesome Moonlight Waltz in the style of Kenny Baker. I have carefully written in bow markings that map out what I feel is a smooth way to play this amazing tune. In some areas you'll see fingerings that take you into 2nd position for certain chords, which might be ideal for players with smaller hands. You'll see in the video that I just stay in 1st position except for section D, E, and the very end - it really depends on hand size, dexterity, and personal preference. Also included is a chord chart for guitar accompaniment where you'll see chord shapes for a guitar capo'd at the 5th fret. Hey there! If you're looking at this you probably love bluegrass as much as I do. I typed up this arrangement for fiddle in the style of Kenny Baker. I've added my own bowings and fingerings based on what feels right and sounds good to me. Slides are marked with either a slanted line or the word slide. The two slanted lines in m. 17, however, mean to lift off at the end of the bow stroke. This helps give a skipping sound to the last note of the measure and puts you at the frog, the perfect setup for the long bows at m. 18-20. I also recommend doing a lift off at the end of the half note in m. 23. The form is ABCB, and on your last pass through the progression follow the To Coda to the Coda / Ending.
