Anton Bruckner is remembered as a symphonist and writer of liturgical music. However, he did compose a small number of works for the piano, Erinnerung (Memory) being the most well-known. Written around the year 1868, it falls chronologically between the first and second symphonies.

The music is poignant, mysterious, grand and harmonically rich. It is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is about 5-6 minutes in length and would make a perfect piece for a recital or jury. If you ever wanted to play a solo by Bruckner....this is it!

Anton Bruckner’s Three Motets serve up some of the master’s most beautiful a cappela choral works with Ralph Sauer’s very eloquent transcriptions. The Motets span a 23 year period in Bruckner’s life and include, 1. Os Justi, 2. Ave Maria and 3. Christus factus est. The two outside movements feature Trumpets and Trombones (or optional Horns) and the Ave Maria utilizes four Horns and Tuba quartet (or optionally  four Trombones), adding a rich conical sound to the grouping of movements.

When performing this transcription a brass group can utilize all the performers of a large ensemble, but having each section resting during one of the movements.

Symphony No. 5 by Anton Bruckner was written in 1875-76 and given the name of Fantastic by the composer himself, although never added to the score. Unfortunately, Bruckner never heard a live performance by orchestra of this glorious work.

Randall Malmstrom has arranged extracts of the Adagio movement for a 5-part Trombone Ensemble including alto on the top part and a contrabass on the bottom part, giving it a very wide and luscious sonority.

The 5 1/2 minute arrangement is appropriate for advanced performers.

Josef Anton Bruckner (4 September 1824 – 11 October 1896) was an Austrian composer, organist, and music theorist best known for his symphonies, masses, Te Deum and motets.

Ave Maria (Hail Mary), WAB 6, is a sacred motet, a setting of the Latin prayer Ave Maria. He composed it in Linz in 1861 and scored the short work in F major for seven unaccompanied voices. Here arranged for clarinet choir.
