At age 17, Mendelssohn composed an extraordinary concert overture for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sixteen years later he added incidental music for the same play, including this ever-popular Wedding March, which today is among the most frequently requested wedding recessional pieces. This full length string quartet arrangement includes the central sections and coda, but for a short recessional the first two strains can be played up to bar 34, with or without repeats.   CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. Though Joplin labeled the piece a Mexican Serenade, its origins are more probably Cuban, and it is considered to have a habanera (and tango rhythm in three of the four strains which is something unique for a work by Joplin, Alongside Gladiolus Rag, Pine Apple Rag, The Ragtime Dance and The Entertainer, Solace was one of Joplin's compositions which featured in the soundtrack of the 1973 film The Sting and helped to revive his music's popularity.
